New Purpose (Friday Fictioneers – 100 words limit)

The early 1900s, and I was grand.

Ivories first tickled by a young piano teacher.

An instrument of training for great and future pianists.

My rich sound, inspiration of a thousand students.

The centerpiece to decades of recitals.

A good, long life in service to others.

But time, and the instructor, passed.

Age took its toll.

No more was I cared for or tuned.

I was shuffled into a corner.

And then to the alley.

Nature’s elements then took their toll.

Years passed, and one day…

A kindly soul, some soil, some flowers.

I gained new purpose.

I serve again.

Sick

Fatigue. Stiff joints. Feeling cold in a warm room.

Deep in the ear canal, an itch I can’t scratch.

Dry, burning eyeballs. Nasal passages blocked.

Feeling the pressure build as the blood pounds in my temples.

Throat swelling shut, becoming difficult to swallow.

Benched indefinitely. Against my will. Without my consent.

So much to do. No energy to do it.

Snippity. Irritable. Cranky. Sorry.

Damnit.

Zzzzzzzzzz.

The Pity Party

there was a plan.

i made a date.

i scheduled it.

i waited

for so long

(an entire week)

and then

life

(responsibility)

got

in the way.

self-care of one kind

replaced

self-care of another.

its not fair!

its not fair!

its not fair.

i want it!

i want it!

i want it.

NOW

really do not like it

when i don’t get

what i want.

so i have a party.

an itty

bitty

pity

party.

it lasts only

briefly

and then,

i resume

life.
